Oblong (170 by 260 mm). No date but c1941-1946. [dated from caption 1941 & later card showing a travelling plan). 230 original photographs and 5 Stamps of Aden. The Photographs are various sizes but most 60 by 47mm, some up to 100 by 72mm. Mounted on 24 black card album leaves with tissue guards (one torn). Generally 2-6 photographs per page. Not all the corner mounts are present. There are captions to the pages, but difficult to see as may be in pencil? Brown marbled cloth boards. Album pages held in place by olive coloured ribbon with tassel. 'Two 'Passed by Censor' stamps to front pastedown. Some wear to the spine ends and corners. Rubbing to edges. Small loss to cloth at bottom spine edge, and small split to cloth, with some loss where nicked, to bottom edge of upper board. Photo's mostly in very good condition, Some with light overall toning.
The 5 Aden stamps with the head of King George VI were issued between 1939 and 1945. 1/2 anna - Aidrus Mosque; 1 anna - Aden harbour; 1 1/2 annas - Dhow; 2 annas - Aidrus Mosque; 2 1/2 annas - Mukalla. All unused and look to be in fine condition, although not removed from mounts.
A personal photograph album by someone who was stationed abroad during the Second World War. The photographs cover a period c1941-1946 whilst in Africa, Middle East and Asia. There are photographs of soldiers on the Ship 'Empress of Japan' with the caption 'Crossing the Line, Indian Ocean, Empress of Japan, July 1941', as well as photographs with family and colleagues. There are also captions referring to locations in India, Cape Town and Table Mountain.
